FarCry 6: Thank you letter

General / 19 October 2021

FarCry 6 has been out for a few days now! I hope you guys are enjoying the beautiful world of Yara. I'm happy to share what I've been working on for the past 2 years. But first I'd like to say few words about how lucky I was to work with such amazing people. I'm really grateful I had the chance to learn and connect with them, and I wish you will have the chance to work with such talented people.

Said that. My work is focused on Santuario Island. Since I joined the team, I had been responsible for the open world and a few main locations of the island with the help of other talented artists and departments. On top of that, I also owned Libertad Island where you have that intricate bunker. My lead was David Chan which did an amazing job at managing and leading the team to achieve high-quality levels! He also had to deal with me so extra kudos because of that! ;)

Coming from a post-apocalyptic Washington. The world of Farcry was very refreshing. So refreshing that sometimes I was staring at the sunsets from some lookouts of the island :). Because of how immersive the world is. I decided to make a Photography trip portfolio item, where I was traveling in the area I worked on. You can find the images on this post: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/ELkZw4

This is one of the first mission locations of the game. I worked on this closely with talented level designer Matthieu Chane, as well as all the other artists from other departments, like everywhere in the world!

Clara's Camp | https://www.artstation.com/artwork/1893DX

This is the first small camp players will encounter. The Level Design of the location was George Macharashvili. The location was incredibly challenging to build since it homes many cinematics while being in an area where performance was very tight. Special thanks to Billy Matjiunis for the direction.

Juan's Workshop | https://www.artstation.com/artwork/zO3B3m

This is the resolver bunker of Juan Cortez. I had fun working on this, especially putting myself in Juan's shoes while building this place. The Level Designer of this location was Rob Colonico.

Libertad island | https://www.artstation.com/artwork/q9kYkz

This is the central part and the camp of Libertad island. I was often looking at the sunset from this island! Make sure to check it out in the game. The Level designer was Ted Mcilwain.

Island Santuario's farms | https://www.artstation.com/artwork/B18J8z

Along with Vivero farms, I had to build some other farms in the OW. I enjoyed experimenting with the verticality of some of them. The Open world Level designer was Alison Gains.

Abandoned Weather Station and Farm | https://www.artstation.com/artwork/Aq151W

These two are medium-size POIs part of the Open World. The Open world Level designer was Alison Gains.

Bunkers and beach | https://www.artstation.com/artwork/lxkXkk

These locations are the first part of the environment players will experience. It was fun working on this!. The Level designer for this part of the game was Matthieu Chane. Special thanks to Marco Beauchemin for the direction.

Santuario Island POIs | https://www.artstation.com/artwork/rAkdk6

These are some other locations in the area of the game I was responsible for. Some of these locations were started by Mathew O. The Open World Level designer for these locations was Alison Gains.

Santuario Island OW | https://www.artstation.com/artwork/PoWB34

In here, you will find some aerial shots of the Santuario island I mainly worked on. I highly recommend stealing a helicopter and check the place yourself in the game :) The Open World Level designer for these locations was Alison Gains. Special thanks go to the amazing mind of Andrejs Verlis who really helped to direct and shape the world!

This is all from me for this time. I hope you will enjoy the world of Yara, and as always, if you have any questions, feel free to comment here or on the individual portfolio items. Make sure to follow to stay up to date! I'll be releasing new educational content soon!

Should I Mentor?

General / 29 April 2021
Hi lovely people

I hope you're doing well and staying safe. I miss hanging around with you <3

In the past year, many people asked and expressed interest in the idea of me mentoring. Somehow I always refused (Shame on me). Today I'm wondering if that should change. This is why I made this blog post.

I would like to know from you if you'd be interested in the idea of me helping you becoming better than me, which honestly is not that hard :P

If interested I prepared a survey for you to help me understand a few things about mentorship and your expectation, I'll really appreciate if you can spare 1 minute to answer some of those questions <3
